The space
Stay in our modern, just renovated ground floor suite! The Blue Retreat Salt Spring boasts partial ocean views and luxury touches like radiant floor heating throughout, and a heat pump for heat / AC.
Our property has a peaceful forest and ocean view. You have access to the first story of the house. This includes two bedrooms with a queen bed, kitchen, a smart TV and wood stove and a cedar sauna for you to enjoy. One of the couches can be extended into a sleeping futon, most suitable for kids to sleep on. We also have a twin air mattress that can be set up. For the music lovers, enjoy the piano too!
Cedar electric sauna and cedar wood fired or electric hot tub accessed from ground floor. The hot tub is a Vintage wood fired hot tub - a west coast classic!
In the winter, requires wood stove to heat up, in the summer gets warm enough on electric. Requires some prep time - fire started a few hours ahead to enjoy. Can set up for guests if we’re home! For longer stays (1 week +), there is chemical maintenance and testing required, so unless we’re home it may mean not being able to use the hot tub.
Family friendly, please let us know if you need additional items such as a travel crib, high chair, toys etc

The suite has its own private entrance and is self contained - we will not be sharing any areas indoors.
There is a quiet tenant on the backside of the property in a separate, detached garage you will likely not have interactions with and who is also often away for work.
**We’re away March 25-28 and all dates in May/June so below won’t apply - guests have full privacy.**
While the suite is very well soundproofed, some muffled background noise may carry. We have two littles and a sweet border collie. You generally won't hear much on our end from 8 PM to 8 AM.
We are often away, please also check, if you would prefer to have the house to yourself.

Other things to note
While we accept up to 5 guests, best suited for 4 adults max and additional 2 children since the living room sleeping areas are a twin air mattress and thin futon. We also have to consider water shortages in the summer.
Min 2 night bookings on Airbnb, 3 for long weekends, 5 during the Dec - Jan holidays. We may be able to accommodate shorter stays for direct bookings (Google blue retreat salt spring).

We are a family that lives on the second and third floors of the house above the suite and we may be home during your stay (although often we are travelling - just ask if you are hoping to have full privacy). The first floor is sound proofed but some muffled background noise may carry from the second floor. Once we're in our bedrooms on the 3rd floor it would be fully soundproof between the suite and 3rd floor. We are a family with young children and a friendly border collie. If you are staying for a longer stay than 3 days the laundry machine is in the suite so we will need to arrange some times to use the laundry machine during your stay.
The futon is most suited for a child as it’s not the most comfortable for an adult.
This is rural living! So please consider the following important details before you book:
We are on a septic so nothing other than TP in the toilet (paper towel, sanitary product, baby wipes etc) or things will get clogged up. The last time this happened we incurred a $1200 plumbing bill.
We are on well water, and the water is sediment and UV filtered and totally fine for drinking but may have a slightly more mineral taste.
Salt Spring like many places experiences extreme water shortages and restrictions in the summer, so please be mindful of your water usage during your stay (turn tap off when brushing teeth, flush pee every other time, etc)
Please bring extra firewood if you are planning to use the fireplace.
No cooking of seafood or smelly food indoors, please request to use the BBQ if planning to cook seafood.
